Doula FAQ

What You Need to Know

What is a doula?

Doula comes from ancient Greek and meant a woman of service. The term has come to be synonymous with "birth companion". A doula's role, however, is much more--she is to emotionally support, physically attend, educate, advocate, and serve. These roles can take different shapes depending on the needs of the woman and her family.

Do you perform physical exams?

As a doula, I cannot perform physical exams, medical procedures, diagnose conditions, or prescribe medicines. Doulas are non-medical support persons.

What if my partner wants to support me during labor?

That's amazing! A doula does not take the place of a partner, instead, I facilitate that support by helping your partner know what things might be helpful. I can be as behind the scenes or upfront as you need.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! I offer flexible payment plans as well as barter and trade. I truly believe the work of doulas improve maternal and infant birth outcomes. Doula support should be accessible to every family that would like to utilize it!
